I’m going to go back to what I love during this Lenten Season…taking photos and highlighting the beauty in the everyday, the sacredness of all that is around us, and in doing so, finding God in his creation.
I’ll be using Diana Butler Bass’ Grounded: Forty Day Devotional as a guide. I hope you’ll join me on this 40 day journey back to Immanuel, God with us.

“The Bible begins with the deep, when God’s spirit sweeps over the waters. . . . For Christians, the Bible also ends with water.” (Grounded, p. 95)
There are references to water throughout scripture. Some of the most significant encounters with God center around water. Out of the deep he created. From out of rock, sustenance given. A way to rescue provided through the seas. A walk on the water emboldened faith. The washing of feet, a lesson in humility. A drink from a well led to living water. Baptism to life.
Water is a place where we can encounter God in many ways. For sustenance physically and spiritually, for rescue, for transformation, for redemption, for grace, for joy and for celebration.
We must remember that God is not above or beyond, but inexplicably woven into the tapestry around us. Creation offers us many opportunities for encounters with the holy and the sacred. We simply need to take the time to notice and enjoy God with us.
“You who are Living Water, may we play in you!
May we be free enough to dive into the depths of the river,
never fearing the splash of grace!”
